Chicago Medical School Sites

China (M1/M2 & M4)

Taizhou Hospital

  • Located in Linhai City, Zhejiang Province, China 
  • Affiliated hospital of Wenzhou Medical College and a teaching hospital for the Medical School of Zhejiang University
  • Students are able to learn about another country's health care system within a unique cultural context in which biomedical clinical care is often complemented by Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital

Ndejje Health Center IV (Zanta Clinic)

  • Located in Entebbe, Uganda and surrounding areas
  • Allows for a variety of clinical medical rotations as well as clinical psychology and clinical pharmacy opportunities in a resource-limited rural as well as an urban setting.

Mexico (M1/M2 & M4)

Universidad Biomédica Rafael Guízar y Valencia 

  • Located in Xalapa, Veracruz State, Mexico
  • Host institution is a health professions university dedicated to community health and metabolic diseases (especially diabetes). Students are able to complete a variety of clinical rotations at the university and affiliated sites.
  • Note: students must have intermediate level Spanish language ability or higher.

Lithuania (M4)

Vilnius University Faculty of Medicine

  • Located in Vilnius, Lithuania
  • Students are able to spend four weeks at the University teaching hospital completing rotations in ares including medical genetics, radiology, anesthesiology and reanimatology, neurology, eye diseases, and nose, ear & throat diseases.

Austria (M4)

Medical University of Innsbruck

  • Located in Innsbruck, Austria
  • Students will spend four weeks at the University in internal medicine and surgical subspecialties.

Israel (M4)

Galilee Medical Center

  • Located in Nahariya, Israel
  • Galilee Medical Center (GMC) is the sole major medical center of the Galilee serving the 600,00 diverse residents. GMC is the main clinical training facility for Bar-Ilan University Faculty of Medicine and offers international programs for medical students from many countries, internships, residency tracks and fellowships.

  • Two primary clinical focuses: 
    • Primary Care & Social Medicine 
    • Hospital Medicine in Latin America
  • Clinical sites include Primary Care General Hospital, State Ministry of Health, Pediatric Primary Care, Infectious Disease Hospital, Pediatric Hospital, Research Hospital, Tertiary Care Hospital, and the City Emergency Hospital.
  • Requires beginner Spanish 

Bolivia

  • Two primary clinical focuses: 
    • Healthcare in Remote Southern Bolivia
    • Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine
  • Clinical sites include Regional Teaching Hospital, Primary Healthcare Centers, Chagas Clinic, Tertiary Government Hospital, Public Pediatric Hospital, Municipal Hospital, Nonprofit Teaching Hospital, and Outpatient Adolescent Clinic.
  • Requires beginner Spanish 

Ecuador

  • Five primary clinical focuses, including:
    • Reproductive Health
    • Urban & Rural Comparative Health
    • Community Medicine - From Rainforest to Coast
  • Clinical sites include Outpatient Obstetrics Rotation, Public Maternity Hospital, Government Primary Health Clinic, Tertiary Care Hospital, Nonprofit Hospital, and Indigenous Medicine Clinic.
  • Requires beginner Spanish 

Ghana

  • Two primary clinical focuses: 
    • Child Health & Social Determinants 
    • Hospital Medicine in Coastal Ghana
  • Clinical sites include Outpatient Department, Emergency Department, and Ward Rotations, Children’s Hospital, Nutritional Rehabilitation Unit and Ward, Public Health Unit, the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, and HIV/AIDS and TB, Asthma, Sickle Cell, Neuro, Pediatric Surgical, and ENT Nurses Clinic.

India

  • Eight primary clinical focuses, including:
    • End-of-Life & Palliative Care
    • Introduction to Traditional Medicine
    • Chronic Disease & Integrative Medicine
  • Clinical sites include LGBTQ Community Center, Juvenile Rehabilitation Center, Homeless Services, Hospice Centers, Hospital for Women and Children, Rural and Private Clinics, Rural Satellite Hospital, among others.

Mexico

  • Five primary clinical focuses, including:
    • Intensive Beginner Spanish & Health Care in Mexico
    • Women’s Reproductive Health, Mexico
    • Tropical Medicine & Community-Based Care on the Coast of Mexico
  • Clinical sites include Government Primary Care Clinics, General Hospital, Traditional Midwife Visit, Primary Healthcare Centers, Government Social Security Hospital, among others.
  • Requires beginner Spanish 

Philippines

  • One primary clinical focus: 
    • Remote Island Medicine
  • Clinical sites include Rural Health Unit/Clinic, Barangay Health Stations, Department of Health, Urban Health Care Facilities, the University of Philippines - Philippine General Hospital, and World Health Organization Western Pacific Regional Office.

South Africa

  • Two primary clinical focuses: 
    • Healthcare Challenges
    • HIV/AIDS and Healthcare
  • Clinical sites include Tertiary Public Hospital, Parochial Hospital, Hospice, HIV Clinic, Secondary Teaching Hospital, and Children’s Hospital: Trauma Unit.

Tanzania

  • One primary clinical focus: 
    • Healthcare Systems and Community-Based Development
  • Clinical sites include Regional Referral Hospital, Public Hospital, and Rural Health Centers.

Uganda

  • Three primary clinical focuses:
    • Nutrition, Food Security, & Sustainable Agriculture
    • Maternal Child Health, HIV, and Realities of Health Access (2 week intensive)
    • OMNI MED - Community Health Workers and Global Health
  • Clinical sites include Nutrition & Rehabilitation Center, Primary Care Clinic, and HIV/AIDS Clinic.

India

  • Clinical sites include Municipal General Hospital (Mumbai), Global Hospital Research Center (Mt. Abu, Rajasthan), Policlinic (Mumbai), Private Clinics, among others.

South Africa

  • Primary clinical focus: Healthcare Challenges
