Macromolecular X-ray and Computing X-ray Facility

The facility is located at L141 of the main campus, 3333 Green Bay Road, North Chicago, IL 60064. It supports structural biology projects based on X-ray crystallography, single particle cryo electron microscopy and molecular modeling. Rosalind Franklin University is a member of SER-CAT (www.ser.aps.anl.gov) with regular access to synchrotron beamlines 22ID and 22BM at Advanced Photon Source. CryoEM data is collected at National Facilities including S2C2 (https://cryoem.slac.stanford.edu/s2c2/) and NCCAT (https://nccat.nysbc.org/). Linux computing includes a 15TB-4GPU workstation for the cryoEM data processing and several graphics workstations for the x-ray crystallography. Multiple software suites are kept current by Structural Biology Grid (www.sbgrid.org). Modeling packages include Molecular Operating Environment (www.chemcomp.com) and SCHRODINGER (www.schrodinger.com). The facility have equipment as listed below.
