Dr. Helminski received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Marquette University, Master of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from Northwestern University, and Doctor of Philosophy in Neurobiology and Physiology from Northwestern University’s Institute of Neuroscience. Dr. Helminski joined the RFMUS faculty in 2022. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), APTA Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy (ANPT), ANPT Vestibular Special Interest Group (VSIG), and Bárány Society – the international society of neuro-otology. In 2018 she received the ANPT-VSIG service award for her work in the advancement of vestibular rehabilitation. Dr. Helminski maintains a small physical therapy practice providing care to individuals with vestibular and balance dysfunction and concussion. She serves on the Medical & Scientific Advisory Board of the Vestibular Disorders Association, a nonprofit organization that provides information, support, and advocacy to people with vestibular and balance disorders. Her research emphasizes management of atypical BPPV, differential diagnosis of acute vestibular syndrome, and management of uncompensated unilateral peripheral vestibular hypofunction. Her work was supported in part by the National Institute of Health, National Institute of Aging. She has presented extensively at national and international conferences and continuing education courses. She is committed to translating science into clinical practice.
