  1. Lifestyle Medicine (LM) is an evidence-based approach to preventing, treating, and even reversing diseases by replacing unhealthy behaviors with positives ones.  LM can be incorporated in conjunction with any other type of medicine.
  2. The six pillars of Lifestyle Medicine include: nutrition, physical activity, avoidance of risky substances, sleep, social relationship, and stress.
  3. As an example, the “nutrition” pillar of LM focuses on a diet predominantly consisting of whole-food, plant-based nutrition.
  4. While many components of LM are incorporated into non-pharmacologic therapies in other forms of medicine, LM’s strong emphasis on these pillars as a critical component of health makes it unique.
