Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine Alumnus of the Year Award

2020 Award Recipient

David HelfmanDAVID N. HELFMAN, DPM ’90

Dr. David Helfman, a member of the Scholl College Class of 1990, is the Founder and CEO of both the Village Podiatry Group and Extremity Healthcare Incorporated, EMI, in Atlanta. Since founding his own solo practice in 1992, he has honed his outstanding entrepreneurial and business skills to develop and continuously refine the ideal “Supergroup Podiatry Model”. This platform allows physicians to practice medicine and surgery of the lower extremity in tandem, treating the whole patient to ensure the best possible patient outcomes.

In the traditional single specialty model of foot and ankle care, physicians play a limited role in the overall healthcare of their patients. In Dr. Helfman’s  EHI model, physicians are directly involved with other physician partners and ancillaries such as Interventional Cardiology, Anesthesiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Pain Management and more.

Currently the clinics under the EHI model treat about 46,000 new patients a year and see 24,000 unique patients on a monthly basis. EHI also has its own anatomic and molecular pathology labs, extremity imaging centers, three ACFAS accredited fellowships and recently started a clinical research division.

Dr. Helfman’s bold vision has truly transformed the podiatric medical profession with his unique practice model.  He has forged his own path of excellence, all while continuing to support future podiatric physicians and paying tribute to his medical alma mater, Scholl College.
