Chemistry Panels
Principle
VITROS chemistry slides are dry, multilayered analytical elements coated on polyester supports. A small volume of patient sample is applied to the slide and evenly distributed through the layers. The spreading layer contains the appropriate substrates and reagents required for the reaction. The analyte in the sample catalyzes a reaction sequence producing products that absorb light at specific wavelengths (340–680 nm). The products diffuse into underlying layers and are measured by reflectance spectrophotometry. Test methodologies include colorimetric, enzymatic endpoint, two-point or multipoint rate, and potentiometric assays. The rate of change in reflection density or amount of colored complex formed is proportional to the analyte concentration in the sample.
Specimen Requirements
Specimen
Collection
Processing
Storage and Transport
Transport at room temperature (15–30°C) if sent to the laboratory the same day. If testing is delayed, centrifuge and refrigerate at 2–8°C.
Unacceptable Specimens
Hemolyzed and/or markedly lipemic specimens, which may interfere with certain chemistry assays.
