Chicago Medical School Graduate Establishes Memorial Scholarship

In 2017, Maureen and Lawrence J. Feit, MD ’65 established the Michele Dawn Feit Memorial Scholarship to honor the memory of their beloved daughter. According to her parents, Michele was “a very loving and devoted daughter, sister and friend to many. She was beautiful inside and out. She had many gifts, one of which was an uncanny way of knowing the essence of a person after having just met him or her.” Michele graduated from the University of Delaware with Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She passed away in 1991 at the age of 24.

A 1965 graduate of the Chicago Medical School, Dr. Lawrence Feit specialized in ophthalmology. Now retired from practice, Dr. Feit wishes to express his deep-seated gratitude to the Chicago Medical School for the education he received and the blessings that his CMS experience provided him in terms of quality of life he was able to provide his family while joyfully pursuit of his profession.

Dr. and Mrs. Feit want to help third year students at CMS by providing both merit and need-based scholarship support. They believe that such support will be most impactful by removing the financial burden from select students as they transition into their clinical training.

“Our greatest reward for this memorial will be that all of the students who obtain this scholarship will be marvelous physicians. Perhaps one or more will be instrumental in finding a cure for manic depressive disorder.”
