Education

The following are required for admission into the Master of Science in Clinical and Lifestyle Nutrition:

• Bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics or a related health or science field from an accredited college or university (prior to matriculation).
• Clinical experience in medical-surgical or critical care nutrition from healthcare professional clinical training, such as a dietetic internship, or on-the-job experience.
• Cumulative minimum grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 point scale in the last two years of study.
• Prerequisite Courses: Successful completion of the following specific coursework recorded on the applicant's official bachelor's degree transcript with a grade of C or better (4 quarter hours):
  • Biology
  • Biochemistry
  • Chemistry with Lab
  • Organic Chemistry with Lab
  • Physiology

Standardized Tests

No GRE scores are required.

If you do not hold U.S. citizenship or permanent residency, you will need an official score report from TOEFL. (This may be waived if you have been a full-time student at a U.S. college or university for at least two consecutive years, or if you are from a country in which English is a primary language.)

Basic TOEFL Requirements

If you earned a bachelor's degree from outside the U.S. and/or you do not hold. U.S. Citizenship or permanent residency, you are required to demonstrate proof of English proficiency via an official TOEFL report that includes: a total score and category scores in reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Minimum scores:
IBT (Internet-based test) of 100 or the equivalent is recommended for graduate school with no category score being lower than 22.

Please note:

• Test scores must be a test taken within 2 years of the date from when a complete application is submitted.
• The language test score requirement may be waived if you have demonstrated academic success as a full-time student at a U.S. college or university for at least two consecutive years, or if you are from a country in which English is a primary language.

Letters of Recommendation

One letter of recommendation is required, two preferred, from professionals and/or academicians who know you well (i.e. pre-health advisors/committees, professors or supervisors). We encourage letter writers to share their contact information. Letters must include a signature and be on official letterhead. Letters must be submitted to RFUCAS.

Current Resume or Curriculum Vitae

A resume or curriculum vitae is required.

Personal Statement

The personal statement should address personal, professional and/or educational experiences that provide the Admissions Committee with insight into your professional goals. The statement should also explain how you would like to utilize this online educational program to support your future endeavors.

Transcripts

Official transcripts from each college, university or community college previously attended must be submitted directly to RFUCAS.

If you have studied outside the U.S., you will need to have your transcript/s evaluated for U.S. equivalency using a service like www.wes.org or www.ece.org.

Only official transcripts will be accepted.

Professional Experience

Professional experience in nutrition, dietetics, or a related health or science field is highly recommended. The Clinical and Lifestyle Nutrition degree program track is only open to candidates with clinical experience.

Non-Degree Applicant Policy

Non-degree applicants may be admitted to take a limited number of courses with the permission of the department chair.
