Program Description

The program is a one-year EMG Fellowship (Clinical Electrodiagnostic Medicine) at the Capt. James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) in North Chicago, IL. The Lovell FHCC is a clinical teaching site affiliated with Chicago Medical School and Marianjoy Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program. The program will involve working in the Clinical Electrodiagnostic Medicine laboratory and evaluating patients with diverse neuromuscular disorders in the outpatient clinic. During the first 2 months of the fellowship, the fellow participates with a Clinical Neurophysiology Review course which includes review of basic nerve conduction studies, needle examination and lectures covering the broad range of neuromuscular disorders.

In addition to standard nerve conduction and electromyographic techniques, you will learn about:

  • Single-fiber electromyography (EMG)
  • Central EMG (Including Botox Injection for Migraine, Spasticity and Dystonia)
  • Neuromuscular ultrasound training
  • Peripheral joint injections.

The Fellow organizes the weekly Neuromuscular Conference and will have the opportunity to teach medical students and senior PM&R residents and is encourages to pursue one or more research projects during the year.

Accreditation

This program is designed to exceed requirements as defined by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine (ABEM).

Qualifications

To be eligible for the EMG Fellowship, you must have successfully completed an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited residency program in PM&R in the United States or Canada.
